As part of the design and SEO team at Customer Street I have been given the fun job of redesigning the MoreUK directory. You can view the current MoreUK Business Directory Here.
These are the main things I will be thinking about when I start drafting up an image of the potential new MoreUK Directory.
The specific pages need to reflect exactly what they are about. This means that if someone completes a search for a plumber in Lancaster, the page needs to reflect in either images or words, both the area and search phrase. This will ensure that the first impressions when a visitor arrives at a page are very specific to what they are looking for.
We need to get everything that is vitally important in the top 600 pixels of the website. It was a shock to me the amount of people who still use 600 x 800 screen resolution so we need to ensure that no matter what resolution the visitor uses that they can see the important information first.
The new design must be easy to read. This includes the font, text formatting and use of colours on the page. The last thing we needis a directory that has information everywhere and is just an eyesore.
It needs to becross category compatable. We need to ensure that they layout and length of the page can adapt depending on the amount of directory listings we have in a category. Some categories have just a couple of listings where more popular categories can have hundreds of listings.
Ensuring that all content is relevant. We also need to ensure that everything on the page is relevant. This may include related categories in the same area or even areas close to where the search location was.
We want MoreUK to be one of the most user friendly directory on the internet, no matter what screen resolution, browser and visual capabilities our visitors have. Our visitors need to be able to find exactly what they are looking for on the page that they arrive on. The directory pages need to be seach engine friendly to ensure maximum exposure for our clients and it needs to appeal to our visitors so that they continually return when they need our service.
