Customer Street website design advice on using text rather than images.

Most of you won’t need to read this article but I want to point this out anyway.

Is the text on your website readable ? or is it an image of text ?

Try highlighting the words on your page. Can you highlight each letter and word individually or do you get a box round a block of text ?

If you can hightlight letters and words individually then the text on your web page is text and you have no problems.

If however you get a square box round a block of text then this is indicating that your text may be saved as an image file. This is a very old way of designing websites or if you need to use a special font rather than the normal ones.

Although your website may look nice you will struggle to get visitors to your website from the search engines. Google in particular likes harvesting text. It does this so that it can build up a bigger picture of who you are and what you do. This helps them when they rank you for particular keywords and phrases.

If the text on your website is stuck in an image file, Google can not get in to the image and read the text. So the search engines will hold a lot less information about your website and rank you lower than if the text was on page.
